CCAIA attended the meeting organized by the Department of Solid Wastes and Chemicals of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment

 On March 20th, the Department of Solid Wastes and Chemicals of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment organized an information exchange meeting on the mercury-free production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) by calcium carbide method in Beijing. The meeting was presided over by Deputy Director Jia Jielin from the Heavy Metals Division. Shao Dingding and Yang Jini from the Foreign Economic and Trade Center, Fu Zixi and Qin Zhaosen from the Heavy Metals Division, Zhang Xin, the Vice President of CCAIA, Zhang Shoute, the Deputy Secretary-General, Li Qiong, the Director of the Research Department, and Wu Gang, the Deputy Secretary-General of China Chemical Industry Environmental Protection Association also attended the meeting. Shao Dingding from the Foreign Economic and Trade Center introduced that the center recently received an email from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), informing that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency hoped to hold a meeting with UNIDO at the end of March to learn about the latest progress of the ¡®Global Environment Fund - China PVC Production Mercury Reduction and Minimization Demonstration Project¡¯ jointly implemented by the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center and UNIDO. At the same time, UNIDO invited international advisory experts of the PVC project to compile a brief report on the evaluation and recommendations of mercury-free technology in China's calcium carbide PVC industry, analyzing the current research, development, and application status of gold-based and copper-based catalysts from both chemical and technical/engineering perspectives. The meeting conducted extensive discussions and exchanges around the brief report and the progress of mercury-free catalysts in China, and drafted a response.
