A CPCIF-sponsored Industry Exchange Meeting to Respond to the International Treaty Negotiation on "Ending Plastic Pollution" was Held in Beijing

 On March 14th, a CPCIF-sponsored industry exchange meeting to respond to the international treaty negotiation on "ending plastic pollution" was held in Beijing. The seminar was organized in a combination of online and offline methods, with over 200 polymer, plastic additives, plastic modification processing and other production enterprises and research institutes participating in the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Zhu Liangwei, Vice Director of the International Cooperation Department of CPCIF and addressed by Li Yongliang, Director of the General Office and Vice Director of the Industrial Development Department. At the meeting, Zhao Nana, Assistant Director of Tsinghua University/Basel Convention Asia Pacific Regional Center, was invited to share the negotiation progress of the international convention on "ending plastic pollution" and representative views of various stakeholders. When Zhuang Xiangning, Vice Director of the Quality, Safety and Environmental Protection Department of CPCIF, shared the industrial situation of the petrochemical and chemical industry related to the plastic industry chain and the Federation's preliminary comments on the convention negotiation, Chang Jing, from the Industry Development Department of CPCIF, introduced the background of the international convention and the global governance of plastic pollution. Industry representatives from Sinopec, Wanhua Chemical, Jinfa Technology, and BASF proposed solutions to the problem of plastic waste pollution from an industry perspective, as well as opinions on the key points of negotiations on the plastic convention. Zhang Wenlei, President of CCAIA, attended the meeting and proposed in his speech to increase publicity efforts to enable industry enterprises to clearly understand the situation they are facing, coordinate and organize professional forces in the industry to support the negotiation of the convention, actively participate in the negotiation of the plastic convention, as it strives to achieve good results conducive to China's petrochemical and chemical industry.
