On November 18th, the pre-meeting of the Fifth Session of the United Nations Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on a Global Plastics Convention (INC-5) was held via video conferencing. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Luis Vayas Valdivieso, the Chairperson of the United Nations Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee. Representatives from global and regional relevant industry institutions and organizations such as the Global Youth Plastics Pollution Alliance, European Bioplastics Association, The Ocean Cleanup, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and the International Organization for Standardization participated in the video conference and made speeches. Ms. Wang Lili, the Director of the International Cooperation Working Committee of CCAIA, attended the online meeting. Mr. Luis Vayas Valdivieso introduced relevant information such as the collection of meeting documents and venue access. The speeches of the representatives from various parties covered contents such as concerns about human health, taking binding measures, emphasizing producer responsibilities, and supporting developing countries. Finally, Mr. Luis Vayas Valdivieso emphasized the importance of the Global Plastics Convention for protecting human health and the environment and called on all parties to work together to reach an agreement on the contents of the convention.
