On July 5th, a symposium on the analysis of economic operation trends in key industries within the petrochemical and chemical systems was held in Beijing. Representatives from the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF), China Chlor-Alkali Industry Association, China Soda Ash Industry Association, China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, China Phosphateİ}Compound Fertilizer Industry Association, China Crop Protection Industry Association, China Rubber Industry Association, China National Coatings Industry Association, China Synthetic Resin Association, China Association of Fluorine and Silicone Industry, and other organizations attended the meeting. Zhang Peichao, Vice President and Secretary-General of CCAIA, and Zheng Jiebin, Deputy Secretary-General, were also in attendance. The meeting was presided over by Fu Xiangsheng, Vice President of CPCIF. Each association presented an overview of their respective industry's economic performance and proposed targeted policy recommendations. Secretary-General Zhang Peichao elaborated on the economic operation of the chlor-alkali industry in the first half of 2024, highlighting a slight increase in production capacity of leading products, high operating rates for caustic soda plants, narrow market fluctuations, reduced exports of caustic soda, and increased exports of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Simultaneously, he pointed out that the industry faces challenges such as sluggish downstream consumption of PVC, an imbalance between caustic soda and chlorine sales, increased compliance burdens under international conventions, and frequent encounters with overseas trade barriers in product exports. He also put forward relevant policy suggestions to address these issues.
