On July 1, a symposium on standardization of product carbon footprint in the petrochemical industry, organized by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF), was held in Beijing. Representatives from CCAIA, Calcium Carbide Association, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec), China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), Sinochem Group, China Energy Investment Corporation, and other relevant organizations attended the meeting. Wang Li, Director of the Research Department of CCAIA, and Fan Hongbo, Secretary-General of the Standardization Working Committee, participated in the meeting online. The symposium was hosted by Yang Jianhai, Deputy Director of the Quality, Safety and Environmental Protection Department of CPCIF. The participants engaged in thorough discussions about common issues such as defining the boundary of product carbon footprint in the petrochemical industry, carbon emissions generated during waste production, and transportation of products. They also proposed to develop and publish the accounting method for carbon footprint of petrochemical products as soon as possible, providing standard support for carbon emission reduction in the industry.
