CCAIA participated in the Compliance Exchange meeting for MCCP POPs

On September 7, the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center (FECC) of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment virtually held an exchange meeting on the POPs compliance related to medium chain chlorinated paraffin. The meeting was chaired by Jiang Chen from the Third Compliance Division of FECC and attended by Zhang Peichao, Vice President and Secretary General of CCAIA, Wang Li, director of the Research Department and Liu Jianguo, an expert of Peking University. CCAIA introduced the status quo of China's CP industry and the significant impact of the POPs compliance of MCCPs on China's CP industry, came up with questions for discussion such as whether Draft Risk Profile for MCCP conforms to the evaluation criteria in Annex E in terms of toxicity and suggested that the POPs Compliance Office take the current development of China's industry into consideration so as to strive for more space and time for the development and transformation of the industry. At the meeting, the experts agreed that as the Chinese side was not likely to win the Annex E-related negotiation in long-distance transfer, we should focus on whether the argument that MCCPs would have significant adverse effects on human health and/or the environment was sufficient. CCAIA said that it would continue to analyze the Draft Risk Profile, actively investigate the opinions of major CP production enterprises and form the views about the industry compliance prior to the negotiation.
