On December 17, the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants and the 2021 Technical Coordination Meeting for the Implementation of the Convention was held in Beijing. The meeting was held online and offline together. Participants from relevant international organizations, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, member units of the domestic compliance coordination group, local ecological environment departments, scientific research institutes, industry associations and members of the compliance expert committee attended the meeting. Zhang Peichao, vice president and secretary general of CCAIA, and Zhang Xin, vice president, attended the meeting online as members of the expert group. Qiwen Qiu, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Mr. Rolf Payer, Executive Secretary of the Secretariats of the Stockholm Convention, Rotterdam Convention and Basel Convention, praised Chinas important contribution to the implementation of the Convention through video, and emphasized that Chinas participation in the key process of implementation has played a vital role effect. Representatives of UNEP, UNDP, Industrial Development Organization, World Bank and other international institutions, Shandong Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment and Petrochemical Federation delivered speeches through video respectively. The meeting held the establishment meeting of the National Coordination Group for the Implementation of the Stockholm Convention and the Expert Committee for the National Coordination Group for the Implementation of the Mercury Convention. Director Ren Yong of the Solid Waste and Chemicals Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Deputy Director Xiao Xuezhi of the Foreign Cooperation and Exchange Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment introduced the progress of China implementation of international conventions. At the same time, the members of the expert committee conducted work discussions and discussed and determined the follow-up work direction.
